Werder Bremen will be without Salim Musah for the rest of 2026 after the striker sustained a serious injury to his left thigh while away with Germany’s Under-20 side.
- Musah played 25 minutes in Germany U20’s 1-0 win over France last Friday.
- Werder expect the 1.98m forward to return only in the new year.
- Head coach Daniel Thioune said Bremen’s medical staff are in contact with the German FA medical department over the next steps.

- The Oldenburg-born striker, who has Ghanaian roots, made seven further league appearances in 2025-26.
- He scored his first senior goal in a 2-1 defeat to RB Leipzig on matchday 28.
- This season, Musah has appeared as a substitute in four competitive matches and has no goal involvement.
What it changes in the Bundesliga week
Thioune had viewed Musah as an important option after the forward’s encouraging summer preparation. He had not yet started a match, with returning striker Niclas Füllkrug ahead of him, but Bremen now lose a developing academy-age attacking option for several months.
“It is incredibly disappointing for Salim and I feel very sorry for him,” Thioune said. “It is also a major setback for us as a team because he had developed very well. We will support him as fully as possible on his way back.”
Bremen are already without leading scorer Jens Stage. With Musah sidelined, Füllkrug and Cedric Itten are the club’s remaining long-term central-striker alternatives.
