William Mirwasser’s route back towards French football is beginning to take shape, even if the 17-year-old defender must still wait before he can leave Hong Kong FC. The Paris-born teenager, already a regular in Hong Kong’s top division, has used the international break to explore possible destinations in England, while Strasbourg are preparing to welcome him later this year.
Mirwasser visited Everton’s training ground and Blackburn’s facilities during the latest break, with both English clubs closely monitoring his development. Everton compete in the Premier League, while Blackburn are in the Championship. The young Frenchman is also due to travel in November, when Strasbourg and Serie A side Lecce are expected to show him around their respective training centres.
The defender first drew wider attention last year after emerging through social media, while playing first-team football for Hong Kong FC at only 16. His long-term ambition has been to move to Europe, ideally to France, and the interest from Strasbourg gives that plan a clear Ligue 1 connection.
However, FIFA regulations prevent Mirwasser from departing his current club before he turns 18 on 28 August 2027. Rather than rushing into a decision, he and his representatives are using the visits to assess the sporting projects on offer, the facilities and the pathway each club could provide.
“These trips are meant to let him see the training environments and discuss what could come next,” those close to the player said. “Nothing has been settled. We want to look carefully at every option before he commits to a new club next summer.”
