Twenty years after the 2006 World Cup final, a France shirt made ready for Zinédine Zidane on that decisive night is returning to view — not on the pitch, but in an online auction.
The move
The unused No. 10 shirt, prepared for Zidane for the 2006 final, will be offered by Aguttes’ Sports department in a sale running exclusively online from 25 October to 7 November.
Its value has been placed between €15,000 and €30,000. Although the shirt was intended for Zidane, he did not wear it during the match.
The item is accompanied by authentication material. It was originally won in an Adidas competition held around the time of the final, and the winner has kept it until now.
The French season around it
The sale comes as Zidane prepares for his first home fixture as France head coach, with Italy due to visit on Friday at 20:45. The timing links one of the most recognisable figures in French football to a new chapter on the national-team bench, two decades after the World Cup final in which the shirt was prepared.
