Four minutes turned Abu Farkhi’s Nations League debut into a rush from frustration to relief, then straight to the dressing room. Israel’s Colorado Rapids forward was sent off in Austria after scoring an equaliser and celebrating with a gesture that brought an immediate second booking.
Starting Israel’s opening match of the competition, Farkhi was cautioned in the 52nd minute. He responded three minutes later by finding the net to bring his side level.
But the celebration proved costly. Farkhi took hold of the corner flag and used it to imitate a rifle, prompting the referee to show another yellow card without delay. The second caution became a red, ending the forward’s night only moments after his goal.
