Toluca left its 3-3 draw with Cruz Azul carrying as much frustration as satisfaction, after a match that swung through six goals without settling the argument around its officiating.
Antonio Mohamed, the Toluca manager known as “Turco”, directed his strongest criticism at referee Katia Itzel García after the final whistle. He believed two Cruz Azul players had committed fouls serious enough to warrant red cards, decisions he felt could have changed the course of the contest.
The result itself reflected an open, volatile meeting between two of Mexico’s most recognisable clubs: Toluca found three goals, Cruz Azul answered with three of its own, and neither side found the final moment required to take control. Yet Mohamed’s post-match focus was on the disciplinary threshold rather than the scoreline, arguing that the punishment for two opposing challenges had fallen short.
For Toluca, it was a point earned in a match of constant movement, but one accompanied by the sense that key refereeing calls remained unresolved long after the stadium had emptied.
