Arsenal Close In as Brighton Add to Premier League Title Race

London closes the seventh round of the 2026-27 Premier League on Monday with Tottenham facing Coventry, but the wider view across England has already sharpened before Europe returns. Arsenal head towards Munich with ground recovered in the title race, while Brighton’s remarkable early pace has added a third colour to the contest at the top.

Arsenal narrow the gap before Bayern trip

Arsenal had little margin for error at Nottingham Forest on Sunday. With Manchester City having won the previous day, Enzo Maresca’s side needed three points at the City Ground to restore the deficit to three points before Wednesday’s Champions League league-phase meeting with Bayern.

They did so through a hard-fought 1-0 victory, leaving the leading positions as follows:

  • Manchester City remain first after beating Ipswich Town 3-2 on Saturday.
  • Arsenal are second, three points behind City following their 1-0 win at Nottingham Forest.
  • Brighton sit third, five points off the leaders and two behind Arsenal.

Brighton make their own statement

Brighton continued an outstanding start to the campaign by overwhelming Crystal Palace 5-0 on Sunday. The result keeps them firmly in third place and within touching distance of the two established sides above them.

Further down the European places, Chelsea moved into fourth after Xabi Alonso’s team won 2-0 at Everton on Saturday. Liverpool hold fifth, having taken a 2-1 away victory over Brentford.

Monday pressure in north London

The round concludes with Tottenham against Coventry, a fixture carrying particular urgency for the hosts. Spurs begin the match at the foot of the table and are two points from safety, turning a Monday-night finale into a pivotal early-season occasion in north London.
