Raphinha did not return after half-time because of thigh discomfort, yet Brazil found another route back into control. Vinícius then completed the scoring from the penalty spot with 11 minutes remaining, having been fouled by Irankunda before sending Beach the wrong way with a shot to the goalkeeper’s right.

The two successful Brazilian penalties inevitably revived a difficult memory from the 2026 World Cup. Bruno Guimarães took a first-half spot-kick against Norway, a miss that came in Brazil’s 2-1 round-of-16 defeat. Raphinha was unavailable for that match through injury, while Vinícius started, leaving fresh discussion over the choice of taker on that occasion.
The result also gave Brazil a measure of revenge after Friday’s 1-1 draw in the first match against Australia at Queensland Country Bank Stadium in Townsville. Rayan scored for Brazil that day, with Irankunda equalising for the Australians.
