Cardona and Teuma Fire Malta Comeback Win Over Andorra

On a Nations League night in Andorra, the decisive French connection did not belong to the home side. Malta came from behind to win 2-1 on Thursday, with Irvin Cardona and Teddy Teuma combining twice after Andorra had taken an early lead through Toulon-born forward Guillaume Lopez.

Lopez, who was developed at Montpellier and also played for Marignane, put Andorra ahead in the 17th minute. The striker moved to Andorra in 2021 and became eligible for the national team after five years in the principality. It was his second international goal, taking him to 14 caps.

Malta’s response arrived before the interval. Saint-Etienne attacker Cardona, born in Nimes, made it 1-1 in the 36th minute after being set up by Teuma, the former Reims midfielder who was born in Toulon.

The pair reversed their roles late in the match. Cardona supplied Teuma for Malta’s winner in the 81st minute, completing the turnaround in the League D fixture.

Three France-born players had shaped the evening, but Malta left with the points as Cardona and Teuma overturned Lopez’s opening strike.
