At Rosario’s Marcelo Bielsa Stadium, El Lechuga watched Paraguay’s under-19 side defeat Argentina at the South American Games, with the Guaraní youth victory offering a glimpse of the work still required before the 2030 World Cup.
The coach, known as El Profe, attended from the stands as Paraguay overcame their hosts in a significant regional youth fixture. His focus is already stretching beyond the tournament and towards the longer-term construction of the national-team group.
Planning for 2030
El Lechuga said Paraguay must begin a measured refresh of the squad as preparations develop for the World Cup in 2030.
“We have to work on a partial renewal of the squad,” he said, signalling that the next cycle will require new players to be brought into the setup without abandoning the existing core.
