Harry Kane Equals England Appearance Record in Czech Republic Clash

At Wembley, where Harry Kane’s England story began more than 11 years ago, the Bayern Munich forward has reached another landmark. Named in Thomas Tuchel’s starting side against the Czech Republic in Nations League Group A3, Kane made his 125th appearance for the England men’s team, drawing level with Peter Shilton’s national record.

The 33-year-old captain arrived at the milestone in familiar surroundings. His first England appearance came at the same stadium in March 2015, during a Euro 2016 qualifier against Lithuania.

Quick facts

  • Kane won his 125th England cap against the Czech Republic at Wembley.
  • He matched Peter Shilton’s all-time England men’s appearance record.
  • Kane is England’s leading scorer, with 89 goals.
  • His debut goal came 79 seconds after he entered the Lithuania match in 2015.
  • He has captained England since 2018.

That debut offered an early glimpse of Kane’s instinct in front of goal. Introduced in the 71st minute against Lithuania, he scored less than two minutes later, beginning a scoring run that has since taken him to 89 England goals.

He passed Wayne Rooney’s previous England scoring record of 53 in March 2023. During this summer’s World Cup, Kane also moved beyond Rooney’s 120 appearances to become England’s most-capped outfield player.

Speaking before the Czech Republic fixture, Kane said walking out and taking in Wembley still carried a special feeling. He said he did not take such occasions for granted, while stressing that England’s focus had to remain on the task in front of them.

Shilton’s mark has stood since 1990. The former goalkeeper, now 77, first played for England in 1970 and sent Kane a congratulatory video message as the striker drew level.

Shilton said he expected Kane to move clear of the record in November and suggested the England captain could establish a total that may never be surpassed. He praised Kane’s continued form, goals, dedication and the work behind his long international career.
