Miami’s brief celebration after Campeones Cup success gave way to a sharper reminder of the MLS race, as Inter Miami drew 2-2 with San Diego in Kily González’s league debut.
Four days after beating Mexico’s Cruz Azul to lift the Campeones Cup, the South Florida side let two points slip at home. Anders Dreyer scored twice for San Diego, including an 82nd-minute equaliser that punished Inter’s defending after the hosts had turned the match around.

Dreyer put the visitors ahead after 12 minutes, exposing the home back line for the first time. Messi responded 11 minutes later with a curling free-kick that struck the post before beating goalkeeper CJ dos Santos.
The Argentine’s 20th league goal keeps him at the top of the MLS scoring chart. Together, Messi and Suárez have supplied 33 of Inter Miami’s 63 goals this season, more than half of the team’s total.
Suárez appeared to have secured the comeback when he converted from a tight angle inside the box in the 74th minute. But San Diego found Dreyer again eight minutes later, and the Danish forward restored parity with his second goal of the evening.
The result takes some of the shine off González’s opening week. The Argentine coach had begun with silverware on Wednesday, but his first MLS assignment ended with a draw that costs Inter Miami ground in the Eastern Conference.
New England Revolution move ahead of Inter in second place on the tiebreakers, with both clubs on 46 points. Houston and St. Louis remain part of a crowded contest near the top, where finishing position will matter for home advantage once the playoffs begin.
