Jonathan Gómez Scores First Goal for Osnabrück in 2. Bundesliga

In Osnabrück, where the northern German club are looking for momentum in the second tier, Jonathan Gómez has begun his loan spell with an early sign of progress. The 23-year-old left-back, who has Mexican roots, has scored his first goal of the campaign and averaged a 7.57 rating across his opening three appearances for the club.

The news from the club

Gómez joined Osnabrück on loan from Greece’s PAOK for the remainder of the season, seeking regular football and another step in his European development. He has not yet played in Germany’s top flight, but his first weeks in Bundesliga 2 have provided a positive start.

His league debut came in Osnabrück’s 3-1 win over Eintracht Braunschweig, when he started and played 86 minutes. Daniel-Kofi Kyereh, Bjarke Jacobsen and Robin were on the scoresheet as Osnabrück collected the points.

The defender then featured against Hertha Berlin and Holstein Kiel. Osnabrück lost 3-1 to Hertha, but Gómez received an 8.1 rating for his performance. He was rated 7.5 after the subsequent 1-1 draw with Kiel.

A cross-border career and an international choice

Born in Texas, Gómez developed in the United States before taking his career to Spain. His route through the game has included spells with Real Sociedad B, Mirandés and Albacete, before his move to PAOK and now the temporary assignment in Germany.

In January 2026, he was part of the Albacete side that knocked Real Madrid out of the Copa del Rey, one of the competition’s standout upsets.

His international future remains open. Gómez has appeared in youth setups for both Mexico and the United States, although he has indicated that he wants to represent Mexico at senior level.
