Manchester City’s challenge to the Premier League’s financial ruling is set to move on a tightly controlled timetable, with the club expected to lodge its appeal by Friday and the entire process required to conclude before Christmas.
City have already made clear, both in a club statement and through chief executive Ferran Soriano, that they will contest the finding of financial irregularities. The appeal now takes the dispute into a formal period governed by Premier League regulations rather than an open-ended legal battle.
Under those rules, an appeal must be completed within 12 weeks of being filed. With City facing Friday’s deadline to submit the case, the scheduled window points to a conclusion before the Christmas break.
A fixed calendar for the appeal
Once the 12-week period has elapsed, the appeal hearing itself may last no longer than five days. The independent Premier League commission would then have a further 30 days to reach and deliver its decision.
For City, whose modern rise has carried the club from Manchester to the summit of European football, the next phase will therefore unfold against a defined winter calendar. The club’s appeal will determine whether the Premier League’s original decision stands or is altered by the independent commission.
