Marc Guiu Faces Fresh Setback After Chelsea Move to Leipzig

In Leipzig, where a new signing is usually given the room to settle into a demanding European calendar, Marc Guiu’s move from Chelsea has yet to provide the reset he sought. The 20-year-old forward from Granollers arrived in Germany looking for regular football, but his first weeks under Martín Demichelis have instead brought limited involvement and a fresh fitness concern.

A difficult start in Saxony

Guiu had struggled to build continuity during the previous campaign in England, with opportunities at Chelsea hard to come by. His switch to RB Leipzig was intended to restart his development, yet the early picture has remained frustratingly familiar.

  • Guiu has played 60 minutes in the Champions League this season.
  • He has added only 15 minutes in the Bundesliga.
  • In Leipzig’s most recent match for which he was available, he remained unused.
  • Competition for attacking places has been intensified by Nkunku’s strong form.

The figures underline how far the Spanish Under-21 international is from establishing himself in Demichelis’s regular selection. For a young striker seeking rhythm after an uneven spell at Chelsea, the lack of match action has made an already delicate adaptation still harder.

Hamstring issue delays his push

Guiu’s route back into contention has also been interrupted by a hamstring muscle injury. He has missed Leipzig’s last two matches, and there is no confirmed date for his return.

It is not the first time such a problem has affected him: he also experienced similar muscular difficulties during his time at Chelsea. With limited minutes already available, the absence risks extending a difficult opening to his German adventure.

Long-term confidence remains

Leipzig’s investment nevertheless points to significant belief in the striker’s potential. The club paid €15 million for Guiu and tied him down on a contract running until 2031, indicating that the current shortage of minutes has not altered the longer-term expectation that he can develop into a leading forward.

For now, though, the immediate task is more modest: recover fully, find a way back into Demichelis’s plans and turn a handful of European and domestic minutes into the sustained role that prompted his move across the continent.
