Nice-Rennes and Lorient-Brest Rescheduled Amid France Protests

France’s mobilisation weekend is reshaping the Ligue 1 schedule, with police resources needed beyond the stadium gates. Two fixtures have been moved as authorities seek to manage security demands linked to planned demonstrations.

Quick facts

  • Nice v Rennes will be played on Friday 30 October at 19:00.
  • Lorient v Brest has been rescheduled for Monday 2 November at 20:45.
  • The Breton derby had originally been set for Saturday evening.
  • Authorities have classified Lorient v Brest as a high-risk match.

The Professional Football League has confirmed that Lorient’s home game against Brest will take place on the Monday night rather than its original Saturday 20:45 slot.

The Lorient sub-prefecture requested the change because the derby requires several mobile police units to secure the occasion. Keeping those officers at the stadium at the same time would limit the security presence available in towns across Brittany during the mobilisation period.

Nice v Rennes has also been taken off Saturday’s programme. Initially scheduled for 17:15, the match was considered for a switch to Sunday before the final decision was made to bring it forward to Friday evening.

Prefectures could still seek further adjustments if security forces are required elsewhere. However, the previous Saturday saw less unrest than the first weekend of mobilisation, a factor that may help other planned matches remain in place.
