Napoli and Roma’s meeting carried the usual weight of a major Serie A afternoon, but a brief exchange between Matteo Politano and Gianluca Mancini offered a lighter moment amid the pressure.
In the 20th minute of the first half, Politano and Mancini challenged for the ball and the Napoli winger went to ground following contact. The referee allowed play to continue, with no foul awarded, and Politano made his frustration clear.
Mancini initially responded to the complaints with a joking dismissive gesture before giving the former Sassuolo and Inter player a small kick on the backside. The pair then looked at one another and exchanged a sign of understanding.
There was no real hostility behind the incident. Politano and Mancini have shared time with the Italy national team, and the exchange appeared to be their way of easing the tension during an important contest between two sides with significant ambitions in the league season.
