Sabres Sign Louis Crevier to Four-Year, $16M Extension

Buffalo locked up newly acquired defenseman Louis Crevier on Thursday, signing the 25-year-old to a four-year contract worth $16 million. The deal carries a $4 million average annual value and takes effect next season.

Crevier secured through 2030-31

  1. Crevier arrived in Buffalo on June 23 as part of the trade that sent defenseman Bowen Byram and forward Jordan Greenway to the Chicago Blackhawks.
  2. He will play the final season of the two-year contract he signed with Chicago on July 17, 2025.
  3. Without an extension, Crevier would have reached restricted free agency after this season.
  4. The new agreement keeps him under contract with the Sabres through the 2030-31 campaign.

The 6-foot-8 blueliner posted 25 points in 78 games for Chicago last season, scoring seven goals and adding 18 assists. He has 10 goals and 22 assists for 32 points across 134 NHL regular-season appearances.

From seventh-round pick to Buffalo blue line

Chicago selected Crevier in the seventh round, 188th overall, at the 2020 NHL Draft. He now joins a Sabres defense group after establishing himself as a regular with the Blackhawks last season.

Buffalo opens its regular season Thursday against the Columbus Blue Jackets in Columbus. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET.
