Seville prepares for the visit of a Barcelona side moving through the early weeks of the 2026-27 Spanish league season at remarkable speed. After a 7-2 victory over Racing in the sixth round, Hansi Flick’s leaders travel to the Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán on Saturday, 19 September, seeking a seventh straight league win and an eighth victory in all competitions.
Barcelona arrive with a perfect record
Barcelona stand alone at the top with 18 points from six matches, a start described as the best in the competition’s 97-year history. Their momentum has been driven by new captain Raphinha, whose move into the central-forward role has brought an exceptional return.
- Raphinha leads the league scoring chart with nine goals.
- Lamine Yamal and Real Madrid forward Kylian Mbappé are next on seven each.
- The Brazilian has 11 goals in all competitions, including two against Feyenoord in the UEFA Champions League.
- He has scored in six of his seven appearances this season.
- In the one match without a goal, the 4-2 win over Levante, he supplied two assists.
The surge has followed Robert Lewandowski’s departure, which left Barcelona without their former Polish centre-forward. Flick has placed Raphinha through the middle, and the Brazilian has quickly answered the challenge despite playing in a changed position.
Sevilla have reasons to believe
The hosts have made a quieter but encouraging opening under Luis García Plaza. Sevilla sit fifth on 13 points and have Brazilian defender Marcão among their options, giving the Andalusian club a solid platform before one of the season’s toughest home tests.
García Plaza recognised Barcelona’s standing while insisting Sevilla will not enter the occasion without confidence. Recalling his meetings with Pep Guardiola’s Barcelona, he said that side could leave opponents chasing the ball, while Flick’s current team stands out for the volume of chances it creates. Barcelona are favourites, he said, but Sevilla are also in good form.
