Torino’s international break has brought an early concern rather than a clean week of work, with Niccolò Fortini returning from Italy Under-21 duty after reporting an adductor problem during Thursday evening’s match against Armenia.
Fortini returns to the Filadelfia
The Granata wide player felt discomfort in the second half of Italy Under-21’s game and was subsequently released from the squad. The Italian Football Federation confirmed on Friday afternoon that Fortini had undergone a medical assessment, been judged unavailable, and sent back to his club.
Torino’s medical department, led by Dr Paolo Gola, will now establish the extent of the issue. Fortini is due to have an MRI scan during the day after complaining of adductor fatigue.
- Fortini’s problem emerged after half-time in Italy Under-21’s Thursday fixture with Armenia.
- The player has left the national-team camp before the end of the break.
- Torino will assess the adductor complaint through MRI testing.
- Any decision on his availability will depend on the results of those examinations.
Abate closes the week before a short break
Ignazio Abate is set to complete Torino’s current training schedule at the Filadelfia on Saturday. The squad will then be given Sunday and Monday off, before returning to work on Tuesday.
The pause gives the club time to receive the outcome of Fortini’s scan and consider how to manage a player whose return from international football has arrived earlier than expected.
A long-term commitment for Gaffurini
While Fortini awaits clarity on his condition, Torino have also secured the future of one of their younger defenders. Gaffurini, born in 2009, has signed a new contract running until 2029.
The renewal is a further indication of the club’s wish to retain a close hold on its emerging talent as the senior group prepares to resume its championship work next week.
