Amanda Anisimova’s 2026 season is over after the American confirmed that a recurring left wrist injury will keep her out for the remainder of the calendar.
The world No. 11 announced the decision on Monday, saying she needed time away from competition to address the problem and prepare for a return in 2027.
“I will be wrapping up my season for the year,” Anisimova wrote. “I sustained a wrist injury again that I need to take care of. Time to get healthy, reset, and see you all in 2027.”
The 25-year-old had been due back in the China Open draw in Beijing, where she was the defending champion, but withdrew late last week. The same wrist issue had already forced her to pull out of the Singapore Tennis Open.
A sharp reversal after a breakthrough 2025
Anisimova entered 2026 carrying the momentum of the strongest season of her career. In 2025, she captured two WTA 1000 trophies, reached two Grand Slam finals and broke into the Top 10 of the PIF WTA Rankings for the first time.
She also made her maiden appearance at the WTA Finals, winning two round-robin matches before advancing to the semifinals.
This season, however, produced no finals and only one semifinal from 12 events. Her deepest run came in Dubai.
Her final appearance of the year came at the US Open. Anisimova opened with victories over Ashlyn Krueger and Lilli Tagger, then exited in the third round against Anastasia Potapova.

Ranking points pressure after Beijing withdrawal
Beginning the season at world No. 3, Anisimova closes her shortened 2026 campaign at No. 11 with a 22-12 match record.
Her withdrawal from Beijing means she will not have the chance to defend the ranking points earned with last year’s China Open title. With no further tournaments planned, her next match will not come before the 2027 season.
