Coco Gauff Makes Surprise Cameo in Gunna’s ‘Pop It’ Video

Coco Gauff has stepped off the baseline and into a new setting, making a surprise appearance in rapper Gunna’s video for his single “Pop It.”

The world No. 4 and two-time Grand Slam champion appears on a tennis court in the release, serving balls as the Georgia-born artist performs. Gunna, whose real name is Sergio Giavanni Kitchens, is 33.

Quick facts

  • Gauff features in Gunna’s new “Pop It” music video.
  • The WTA world No. 4 is shown serving and hitting on court.
  • The video follows a teaser in which Gauff and Gunna played tennis together.
  • Director Spike Jordan said the rapper had wanted to take up tennis.

The opening tennis sequence uses one of Gauff’s serves to cue the track’s beat, before Gunna challenges her to produce her best tennis. Later shots show Gauff swinging her racquet and moving to the music in a white top with black detailing and thigh-high boots.

The cameo grew from Gunna’s interest in the sport. Spike Jordan, director of The Genius Club, said the concept was built around putting the rapper on court with an elite player.

“Gunna has been wanting to get into tennis, so for this video, we thought, why not learn from the best and make it real,” Jordan said.

Gauff described the shoot as an opportunity to enjoy a different kind of day away from the normal tour routine. “It was about having fun, trying something new and allowing the world around us to exist,” she said.

The appearance comes with Gauff established near the top of the WTA rankings at No. 4, while continuing to add off-court projects to her profile. No tournament draw, ranking-points change or next-round match was involved in the video release.
