Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Keenan Allen has been charged with two misdemeanors after an Aug. 30 arrest stemming from an early-morning traffic investigation in Indianapolis.
Court documents show Allen was charged Tuesday with operating a vehicle with an alcohol concentration of 0.15 or higher and operating a vehicle while intoxicated. Both counts are misdemeanors.
Allen posted a $500 cash bond. His legal team waived an initial court appearance that had been set for Wednesday, and an attorney conference is scheduled for Oct. 26.
Arrest followed early-morning traffic stop
Indianapolis Metropolitan Police officers began their investigation shortly after 1 a.m. on Aug. 30 after seeing a vehicle parked in a prohibited area. Police said officers observed signs of impairment while speaking with Allen, who was arrested following additional investigation.
Allen has not publicly commented on the case. Colts head coach Shane Steichen also declined to discuss the matter before Wednesday’s practice, though Allen was expected to take part.
Veteran receiver begins first season in Indianapolis
The 34-year-old Allen is in his 14th NFL campaign and joined the Colts on Aug. 19. The move reunited him with Steichen, who spent the first seven seasons of Allen’s career as an assistant coach with the Chargers.
Allen spent 12 of his previous 13 seasons with the San Diego-Los Angeles Chargers. He produced 81 catches, 777 receiving yards and four touchdowns across 17 games last season, when he became the franchise’s all-time leader in receptions.
His Chargers totals included 985 receptions, 11,307 yards and 63 touchdown catches.
In Indianapolis’ 41-23 Week 1 loss to the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday, Allen paced the Colts with six receptions, though he finished with 32 receiving yards.
Allen enters the next game two receptions shy of passing Andre Johnson for 12th on the NFL’s career receptions list. He is also 64 yards behind Charlie Joiner for 30th in career receiving yards. His 70 career touchdown receptions are tied for 52nd in league history.
