Alessandro Bastoni punished a costly error in France’s build-up, stepping in ahead of a back-to-goal recipient of Adrien Rabiot’s pass before finishing calmly in a one-on-one situation.
The decisive mistake
- France attempted to play out from the back through Rabiot.
- The pass reached a teammate facing away from the attacking direction, leaving the ball exposed.
- Inter Milan defender Bastoni anticipated the next touch, won possession and broke through alone.
- The Italian centre-back completed the move with a composed finish, then celebrated with his teammates.
